Cable Or Satellite TV

Posted on 3rd November 2009 in Cable and Satellite TV

If you’re considering entertainment within your home should you opt in for cable TV or should you consider a satellite system? Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Cable TV is probably the most convenient of the two. You don’t have to worry about setting up a satellite dish and a something was wrong with the equipment you simply have the phone cable company to get it rectified. Satellite companies are starting to close this gap providing more service for installation and repair. So overtime this may become a moot point.

Cable-TV also does not have any the problems associated with atmospheric conditions. For example, if it gets really cloudy outside or starts to snow quite heavily you may find that your satellite TV will lose reception partially or completely. On the other hand if the cable TV installation backbone in your neighborhood is fairly old then you may find that you reception from cable-TV is bad some of the time or all of the time. This is the situation I find that we are in. The in ground cabling in our neighborhood is about 30 years old and does have some problems. The expense of the cable company fixing it is too high for them to do anything about it. They would prefer to offer a rebate if someone complains.

On the other hand satellite-TV may offer more channel choices to you. Satellite TV is constantly upgrading their selection of services to stay competitive in the market. But once again cable-TV has noticed this trend and is constantly improving its channel selection as well. I’ve used both types of systems and have enjoyed both types of systems for some time. I think there is one thing about satellite-TV that I just don’t care for. Your satellite can normally only accommodate two receivers at any one time. This means you have limited flexibility to where you receive TV within your home. In my situation, we have a TV in our main living room and one in our bedroom. Now I’d like to be able to record TV on my computer as well. With cable I was able to do just that easily and efficiently. The satellite-TV, I’ve never been able to make it work properly.

So in my mind, even though our cable may not have as good reception as the satellite it does offer the flexibility to connect my computer and recorded it for viewing at my convenience. So which do you think is best for your situation, cable-TV or satellite-TV?
