Nexus, the new Google smartphone

It was announced by Google Last week, the new smartphone Nexus. The phone goes to the challenge ‘iPhoneEspecially with regard to the performance / price ratio. Indeed, the cost of production of Nexus has been estimated by the specialist firm iSuppli, of only 120 euro: an analysis of expected costs 30.50 dollars for the faster processor processor Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD 8250 1 GHz, $ 41 for the display and management module for Samsung 3.7-inch touchscreen, 12:50 dollars for the built-in 5.0 megapixel camera, 8.20 dollars for the trasmettirore Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Nexus One will be manufactured by the Taiwanese HTC. The performance will certainly be high, but the iPhone wins on the amount of memory: 16 GB integrated, compared with 4Gb card on the smartphone Google.

The operating system, is of course Android. Very interesting also the presence of the GPS receiver, which allows the integration in this device all the functions related to satellite navigation, thanks also to Google Maps.

In Europe, the Nexus, will be distributed by Vodafone, as announced by this company, which plans to market the product initially in the UK before moving to the rest of Europe. Finally, rumors about a possible version of this product aimed at companies, one speaks of a Nexus Two, which would have a QWERTY keyboard, perhaps a slide.  Read more...

Samsung than Apple’s smartphone to become the world’s largest provider

U.S. market research firm IDC released a report Thursday, Samsung third-quarter smartphone shipments exceeded 20 million mark, reaching 23.6 million, an increase of 223.2%, 20.0% market share, surpassing Apple’s 14.5 % as the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer.

Overall profile

IDC said in a report, although some slowdown in key mature markets, but in the third quarter of the global smart phone still achieved shipments of 118.1 million, compared with last year’s 82.8 million up 42.6%.

It is noteworthy that 42.6% of the 49.1% increase in less than IDC had expected, also lower than the previous quarter’s 66.7% increase. Since the release of Apple’s new iPhone delayed leading smart phone shipments in the third quarter, growth slowed down. Previous years third quarter, shipments are to benefit from the new iPhone boost. Western Europe and the United States to achieve two key areas are still a considerable increase, but the increase was lower than expected. However, the global market continues to achieve double-digit growth, it also highlights the heat of the smart phone market.

China has already overtook the US in both PC sales and shipments, now China overtook the U.S. again as the world’s largest smartphone market by volume in the third quarter of 2011. According to Strategy Analytics’ report, shipments of smartphones in China grew 58% in the third quarter from the previous quarter to 24 million units. In the U.S., smartphone shipments fell 7% to 23 million units. China’s rapid growth has been driven by an increasing availability of smartphones in retail channels. The United States remains the world’s largest smartphone market by revenue, but China has overtaken the United States in terms of volume. The growth has been driven by operators’ aggressive subsidizing of high-end models like the Apple iPhone, and an emerging wave of low-cost Android models from local Chinese brands such as ZTE. Android system becoming increasingly popular in China, many local makers were capable of manufacturing low-priced smart phones operating on the Android platform. China is now at the forefront of the worldwide mobile computing boom, which no hardware vendor, component maker or content developer can afford to ignore.
