What the Facts Show About Cable Vs Satellite

Posted on 21st December 2011 in Cable and Satellite TV

Article by Michael Gibbes

There are a lot of articles floating on the Internet these days comparing satellite TV to cable TV. Since both of these industries are competing against each other it’s reasonable to assume that both industries have provided some of these slanted articles, in hopes of persuading new viewers to join one particular company. So yes, all information you read on the Internet will probably be slightly biased. The truth of the matter is that cable and satellite TV each have their advantages and disadvantages. In a few areas, cable TV may be superior to satellite TV. However, when you consider all the facts, you will start to see why so many people prefer satellite TV to cable.

Let’s first consider one major issue: equipment. Cable companies do not require any special equipment for basic cable setup, though a technician may have to come to your house to secure a connection. Premium cable will require a cable box, which is lent to you by the company. After cancelling service, you will be required to give the box back. Satellite TV requires the installation of a satellite dish outside your home, presumably in your yard or on the roof. Most companies will provide this equipment free of charge, provided you sign a contract or pay various setup fees. Though some satellite companies may require a long-term contract, leading providers of satellite TV proudly advertise that they have no contracts. In this issue, there is no clear winner. The only technicality is that some apartment complexes may not allow satellite TV if there is no clear view of the southern sky available.

What About The Taxes On My Wholesale Consumer Electronics From China?

Posted on 16th November 2011 in Consumer Electronic

Article by Charlemagne Solanor

That’s the question, isn’t it? We all don’t want to end up being chased by the guv’ment because we didn’t pay our dues, right? We have to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s.

Anyway, for those of you who are now looking at buying wholesale electronics from China, here’s great news: For now, most China-based wholesale consumer electronics supplier aren’t charging any VAT, other taxes or any other hidden charges at all. Zero. Nada. So, what do they charge you? Just pay them what you see on your computer screens when you checked your items out which, of course, includes shipping charges which are very minimal (and at least say “Thank you” in your heart for their wonderful service).

But hold your horses! Your supplier doesn’t charge you any taxes, yes, but depending on your country’s tax regulations you might pay up for some custom duties. Yup, that’s one of life’s hard facts. But, hey, don’t lose sleep! Do these quick and easy but very necessary steps to learn how to deal with tax matters when importing to save you time and money:

* Do your homework. Do a research on your country’s tax regulations on imported goods. Don’t guess. * Take time out to contact the right government agency that handles these concerns and remember to talk to the right person in that agency.* Contact your supplier and ask if they have special arrangements to help you minimize your taxes (or even eliminate them altogether). * Outline your special instructions for your suppliers concerning disclosure of amounts or value of the goods and they will be more than glad to assist you with these matters.

Consumer Electronics Show opening later this week to be all about 4G devices and tabs

CES likely to feature 4G, tabs, but not iPhone for Verizon

Look for the Consumer Electronics Show opening later this week to be all about 4G devices and tabs, but not the much-anticipated iPhone for Verizon.

Sascha Segan reports in bestlaptopbattery.co.uk: “This is going to be a huge show for 4G.” He said Verizon Wireless (VZ) may introduce a half-dozen LTE phones and tablets. There also is chatter about 4G devices from Samsung, LG and HTC. T-Mobile likely will show off its HSPA+ phones and tablets.

“Certainly the Number One trend [at CES] will be tablets,” said NPD Group analyst Stephen Baker in article by Glen Chapman at AFP. “I think every smartphone and PC (personal computer) company will either have one on their show floor; be showing them behind closed doors, or announcing things.”

Anywhere from 40 to 80 tabs are expected to debut at CES, which starts on Thursday with over 2,000 exhibitors at the event in Las Vegas.

Expect a CES demo of Motorola’s (MOT) 10-inch tablet using Android Honeycomb from Google (GOOG). “We’re going to see a lot more of the Island of Misfit Tablets—low-cost tablets of questionable quality based on Android Froyo software, which may end up on convenience store shelves or sold at a discount through computer retailers,” according to Segan.

Analyst Rob Enderle said: “We are going to be up to our armpits in crappy tablets, and I do mean crappy.”
