Years ago, cable TV was more or less the only option when it came to national home entertainment services that went beyond sparse local programming. In order to get more than two or three local broadcast channels, you pretty much had no other option than signing up for cable. Back in the day, satellite dishes were so big that they were not really practical for anyone who did not live in the middle of nowhere. But recent advances in satellite technology and services have made satellite TV step up as a real competitor in today’s urban as well as rural markets.
