Understanding the Differences in Cable and Satellite Technology

Posted on 2nd December 2011 in Cable and Satellite TV

Article by Michael Newman

Cable TV was once the basic standard for those in cities and towns, while those in rural areas had to rely on an aerial antenna. Of course, the development and spread of satellite TV technology has changed all that. Now anyone at all can have clear, digital TV picture and programming, providing them with tremendous entertainment, be it sports, music, movies, sitcoms or even educational content. What are the differences between satellite and cable technology? Strangely, both technologies are quite similar in some respects, though they differ vastly in others.

Satellite TVIn some respects, satellite TV resembles old air-to-ground transmission methods. Both rely on “line of sight” transmission. That is, TV signals from standard broadcasting centers are sent from tall antennas in the form of radio waves. These waves travel in a straight line, passing through and around small obstructions. However, when the curvature of the earth interferes, the signal is lost. This is what is called “line of sight”; if you can draw a straight line from your antenna to the TV tower, and area within range, you should receive signal. Satellite technology is exactly the same.

However, the “line of sight” problem is no longer a problem. Because the satellite providers make use of orbiting satellites, there is always a direct line of sight to every home in North America. These satellites orbit high above the curve of the earth, in a geosynchronous orbit (that means they orbit with the earth, rather than in the opposite direction; this keeps them in one place at all times). Because the line of sight issue is no longer a problem, consumers all around the US can receive the programming that they want, rather than relying on skimpy air-to-ground transmissions.

Latest Smartphone Technology

Posted on 23rd October 2011 in Communication

There was a time when phones were only used for their primary objective – to make calls and to send texts, however, those days have long gone. Things have changed with the onset of new technology as better handsets have cropped up in the stores. Couple of years back, multimedia handsets had become a rage (sets which would allow you to play songs from memory cards and have decent camera) but now the market is flooded with smartphones. These smartphones are way different from the ordinary phones and the multimedia phones.

So how different are these smartphones and what are they famous for? Well, one can hardly compare a smartphone and a multimedia device as they are poles apart. Multimedia phones can be considered as a mid stage in the evolution of smartphones. Smartphones are capable of helping you with your daily work by offering you wide variety of features.

Some of the features of the smartphones include Wi-Fi, Internet connectivity, high resolution camera, good operating system, superior display, proper video recording, GPS, tons of widgets, easy to use user interface, secondary camera for video calls etc. It is to be noted that these are just the basic features of the same as every brand try to come up with something unique in their smartphone.

Make better use of technology with sell cell phone websites

Posted on 2nd September 2011 in Communication

Earlier in 1990s, cellular phones were larger and heavier and had audio capabilities only. Today they are lightweight, can be thinner than a match- book and can send both audio and data, including written messages and streaming video.

Integrating Smartphone Technology in Car Dealerships.

Posted on 6th July 2011 in Communication

Article by Neil Gale

Recently a client asked me, “How do I know if somebody snaps a picture of the QR code in the ad I placed?” Well… there really is no way to know if a Smartphone camera takes a picture of a QR code. Smartphones must have a QR code application (app) installed to decipher the photo of the QR code. When the code contains a phone number that is auto-dialed that phone number would be tracked to that specific QR code, thus providing the metrics every dealer wants. There are quite a few free QR code reading and code generating apps available for the Android, iPhone and iPad platforms (I counted at least 18 QR code apps on the Android Market), so customers that are technology savvy can use the app for free and businesses can create QR codes on-the-fly.

Incorporating QR codes in your conventional marketing strategy is just one way to use Smartphones to communicate with a quickly growing segment of the public. Over 285 million people, over 91% of the population have mobile phones in the U.S. and nearly 40% of those phones can access the Internet. It’s predicted that within the next 12 to 18 months the percentage of Smartphones will reach over 60% penetration.

There are many great Smartphone apps available today that truly engage car buyers, car enthusiasts, vehicle owners, car dealers and automotive industry professionals. The apps I’ve highlighted in this article only scratch the surface of what’s to come for mobile technology and application development in the near future.
